The Boazanian Empire is the main antagonistic faction of Voltes V.

The planet of Boazania, as shown in episode 38
Ruled by Emperor Zu Zambajil after he usurped the throne from his "hornless" cousin and Prince Heinel's father, La Gour, it serves to carry out his desire to expand his power further through force, via dominating all planets in the universe and get more and more slaves. Its hierarchy is based on the numbers of horns each of them has, with a higher number of horns designating a greater status, as a result the hornless ones are treated as slaves. Its aesthetics appear to be modeled after those of medieval France.
Biography[]
The Boazanian Empire lies in the planet of Boazania, a planet four times the size of earth and approximately 14,000 light years away. The planet has two rings.
Planet Boazania itself is situated in in the Boazanian star system. It is extremely dangerous due to the mass of meteorites in the star belts, and should one surpass it, they must also brave Sodom and Gomorrah, the two moons of Boazania made to crush intruders.
Cultural history[]
Past[]
Originally, the horned and hornless Boazanians co-existed peacefully, until the hornless ones started to be shunned and get treated as low-classes. When the crowned prince La Gour was born, he himself was hornless, so his parents decided to give him fake horns so he wouldn't endure any scorn. Mere moments before La Gour ascended to the throne, his cousin Zu Zambajil revealed La Gour's "hornlessness" and allowed himself to be crowned instead. La Gour then led a coup against Zu Zambajil, but was defeated and fled to Earth, immigrating with humans as Professor Kentaro Goh. Under Zu Zambajil's reign, Boazanians, horned or hornless alike, are imprisoned, enslaved and executed. Years later, Goh returned to Boazania to convince Zu Zambajil not to invade other planets, but the Emperor refused to listen and imprisoned him.
Voltes V[]
A decade later, Zu Zambajil sends Prince Heinel, La Gour's son to lead an invasion against Earth with legions of fleets. In truth, he wants to send Heinel away to remove a perceived threat for his rule. Boazania's forces easily slaughter Earth's forces and destroy many cities, while survivors retreat. Professor Goh's half-Earthling children, Kenichi, Daijiro and Hiyoshi, alongside Ippei Mine and Megumi Oka, are then summoned by Professor Hamaguchi and Mitsuyo Goh (Kentaro's wife) to pilot Goh's greatest invention, the giant robot Voltes V, forming the Voltes team. Ever since then, the team has caused a lot of troubles for the empire, threatening their ambition to take over Earth. Due to Heinel's repeat setbacks against the Voltes team, Zu Zambajil demotes and exiles him back to Boazania.
Eventually, Voltes V and Big Falcon reach Boazania and free Professor Goh. The Voltes team then convince the Boazanians about Zu Zambajil's tyranny. As a result, the Boazanians rebel against the Emperor, while his loyalists desert en masse to save their own skins. With the Boazanians' help, the Voltes team manage to defeat Zu Zambajil's men. Terrified, Zu Zambajil tries to escape with a load of riches, but is found by Heinel, who then kills him as a punishment for betraying his planet and people, ending his reign of terror once and for all. Heinel would then save Kenichi from the fire that is engulfing the castle, sacrificing himself in the process.
After Zu Zambajil's death, Goh, now going by his real name La Gour again, is finally crowned as the Emperor of Boazania and reorganizes the empire into a peaceful and non-racist one where the horned and hornlessness co-exist peacefully once again.

Development[]
The Boazanian Empire is based on 1700s France with it's names and aesthetics. The slave revolt led by La Gour is likely a nod to the French revolution.
Accordong to Japanese Wikipedia, the name is derived from the French word "voisine", which means "neighbour".
1979 Questor International[]
The 1979 Compilation LP Album "QUESTOR'S SUPER ROBOTS" had a section devoted to Boazania, where it revealed several pieces of information not apparent in the anime.
Culture[]
The planet is divided into feudal zones and sectors. Each member of the Nobility has an administrative function. They are also represented or allowed to appear at the Imperial Court from time to time.
The population is estimated at 15 trillion. Boazanians are divided into two classes: the Horned Class and the Non-Horned Class. The presence of a pair of horns respresents the higher class. The Non-Horned Class is a subservient and slave grouping. They are not free men, are not allowed to have any possessions and cannot marry unless permitted by their Masters.
Slaves perform 97.3 percent of all manual labor in Boazania. Most of the work in Boazania is agricultural in nature. Other types of work performed by slaves are as servants, messengers, clerks, etc. Boazania is self-sufficient in food.
Very few industries exist in Boazania. Mahcinery and technology are developed in other planets of the Boazanian Star Cluster. Industrial products are imported from other planets.
Primarily, Boazania offers many resorts, pleasures and other entertainment activities. It is a vacation spot with a rating of .83, making it ideal as a tourist planet.
Technology[]
The emergence of Boazania as a stellar force in the Galaxy was made possible during the reign of Hakkor IV. Development of rocket propulsion enabled Boazania to reach other planets in her solar system. Too cumbersome and too impractical to continue, plans for the explorations of Space were shelved.
Intra-Stellar Drive was perfected during latter years of Hakkorian rule. Although still too slow and crude, "Generation" ships were effected due to growing Boazanian population (Slave Population increased at the phenomenal rate of 23.32 per year). "Generation" ships would take decades to reach the next stellar system thus people would die and be born along the trip.
Leap to the Inter-Stellar Drive, The Drive was powered by light converted into electromagnetic propulsion augmented by the discovery of Graadar Warns. Plotted by Grad Zeegar, excursions into deep space tripled because of these discoveries.
Unfortunately, Chrono-Spatio development was not applicalbe to arms and weaponry. Boazania developed more conventional weapons, progressing along the lines of atomics and nucleics. Eons ahead of Earth, by the time they invaded Earth, Boazania's military might was far more sophisticated and powerful.
Creation of Beast Fighters was the height of Boazanian War Machines. In reality, the Beast Fighters were gigantic robot-cybernauts. They came to life with the transplantation of Boazanian minds into the robots' computers.
The Boazanian Beast Fighters made Boazania invincible and more than the match of any other civilization in the Galaxy. Thus, their explorations were supported by an equally powerful and destructive military force.
Centra Galaktika was brought under the rule of the Boazanian Empire. In 1994, Boazania reached the Periphery, Earth was the first of the Outer Worlds to be invaded.
The invasion of the Earth was supposed to be the easiest conquest for the Boazanians. However, this was not true.
