Do Bergan is the second Boazanian general sent by Emperor Zu Zambajil to spy on Heinel and a major antagonist of Chōdenji Machine Voltes V. He keeps his identity concealed most of the time with a blank mask.
Personality[]
Bergan is narcissistic and self-absorbed, always believing that victory is in his hands and his enemies are inferior. He makes his debut to the Voltes team by sending crashing meteors their way. When he enters Scar Rook, he does so without paying Heinel the proper respect one must pay to monarchs in Boazanian culture, which earns the shock of Rui Jangal. However, Heinel is willing to overlook this as long as he proves a useful ally against Voltes V.
When it comes to Heinel, he is a person full of deception, always seeking to kill him if he has the chance. To this end, he conspires with Duke Zaki and later General Gururu to have the prince killed.
He is also extremely over confident, thinking that Maxingal is enough to block the Voltes V's attacks, allowing the Voltes team to continuously thwart his attempts to defeat it. Because of his overconfidence, he thinks that he can take over Heinel's position, only to become Zuhl's replacement as Heinel's minion instead, much to his humiliation.
Biography[]
After Zuhl's death, Emperor Zu Zambajil decides to send Do Bergan to have Prince Heinel. Upon his arrival on Earth, Do Bergan creates a combat beast with a special alloy called Maxingal that was used for his armor, which is supposedly invulnerable to the Voltes V's attacks. He intents to use Maxingal to defeat Voltes V and take over Heinel's position, but loses and replaces Zuhl instead. Afterwards, Do Bergan orders all beast fighters to be constructed with Maxingal armor, but they're still no match for Voltes V, as it upgrades its sword with the Superelectromagnetic Ball. In later episodes, Bergan continues to pose as an ally for Heinel, until episode 37, when he deserts him after Zambajil announces he has abandoned Heinel. In the same episode, Do Bergan and General Gururu betray Heinel and try to blow up Earth with a Magmite Bomb, but this once again fails. Shortly before they go back to Boazania, Bergan has a spar with Megumi Oka that results in her humilating him.
In episode 38, the Voltes team make their way to Boazania. When Zambajil sees them coming, he dispatches Bergan and Gururu to deal with them. While they initially seem victorius, the tides turn when Voltes V overpower them and bypass Sodom and Gomorrah, planet Boazania's defense system. Do Bergan and Gururu die in the battle when their starship is destroyed by the Voltes team.
Eventually, Voltes V and Big Falcon reach Boazania and free Professor Goh. The Voltes team then convince the Boazanians about Zu Zambajil's tyranny. As a result, the Boazanians rebel against the Emperor, while his loyalists desert en masse to save their own skins. With the Boazanians' help, the Voltes team manage to defeat Zu Zambajil's men.
Relationships[]
Heinel[]
Bergan was originally sent to kill Heinel, and presented himself as someone overconfident and brash. Despite failing to kill Voltes V, Heinel showed him mercy even after it was found out he was sent to kill him and relegated to Zuhl's position. However Bergan would betray Heinel once again in episode 37 and join forces with Gururu to plant a bomb on earth. Luckily, Red Eagle removed the bomb.
Katherine[]
Bergan is implied to be attracted to Katherine, as in episode 31 he called her "a beautiful lady". However in the prior episode, he said that women shouldn't battle and Katherine should stay out of the war between earth and Boazania. However, his hatred of her could be because she tended to foil assassination plots against Heinel.
