This article is about a/an character in Chōdenji Machine Voltes V.

General Dange is a former Boazanian general and ally of La Gour.

History[]

Dange was former member of Boazanian nobility. He was also a decorated military general, earning the respect of many Boazanians including Gilion. Believing in Kentaro Goh's cause of equality, Dange broke his horns and joined the rebellion. When Dr. Goh returned to Boazania and was ordered to be executed by Zambajil, Dange freed him from capture and escaped with him back to Earth, along with a handful of rebels.

Though Dange didn't personally meet Voltes V until episode 28, he assisted them by piloting the Mecha Hawk and installing new weapons upgrade components during battle. On route to Big Falcon, he was attacked by a beast fighter and was mortally injured. However, just before he died, he managed to tell the Voltes team of their father's history and their Boazanian origins.

In episode 29, Heinel enlists Boazanian warrior Giligan to get revenge on Voltes V for harbouring the "traitor" Dange. Giligan is shocked to learn that the general he once looked up to betrayed Boazania. Giligan is then sent to Big Falcon, with Heinel instructing him to hold one the pilots of Voltes V hostage in exchange for Dange.

As Giligan and Voltes V spar, he manages to capture Hiyoshi's Volt Machine and holds it for ransom, demanding for Dange in return. Kenichi informs him that Dange has died, but Gilion doesn't believe him. Kenichi then asks for Big Falcon to show Gilion Dange's corpse in a glass coffin. Giligan becomes distressed upon realizing his beloved mentor and old friend is dead, and falls to Voltes V. When he laments that he was defeated by earthlings, Kenichi informs him that he is of Boazanian blood, and that the battle is meaningless. Recognizing that Giligan is of pure intentions and was tricked into comitting atrocious acts, Kenichi spares his life, and tells him to inform Heinel about his heritage.

When Heinel hears that Kenichi and his brothers allege themselves to be Boazanian, he enters a fit of rage and destroys many sculptures and vases. He calls Voltes V having Boazanian blood "a disgrace to their planet". He orders Bergan to prepare another beast fighter. Heinel then admonishes Giligan for "believing Voltes V's lies". In retirn Giligan critisizes Heinel for targeting a man who's already dead and says that Dange is no traitor.

Angered, Heinel brands him a traitor as well and calls for Giligan's execution, and he is subsequently chained to a pole. Heinel gives Gilion one last chance to repent, saying he should ask for mercy or say his last words. Giligan says he was happier under Dange, praising him for giving him a future. He then tells Heinel he wasted his life doing his evil bidding and that he would rather die than serve him. His last words are "GLORY TO GENERAL DANGE!". His response is met by a beast fighter with a gun firing projectiles at him. Katherine turns away from his execution, and Jangal also shows an expression that he has gone too far.

However, Heinel has plans to use his remains to send a message.

Big Falcon detects Jangal's oncoming beast fighter and dispatches the Voltes team. Preparing for a Boazanian attack, the Voltes team are surprised to see Giligan's horn, with Jangal telling them this is what happens to traitors to the Boazanian empire. Horrified, Kenichi commands Voltes V destroys Jangal's beast fighter Voltes and tells Jangal that Dange and Giligan will be buried with military honours. Giligan's corpse was collected and sent to the salute of the defense force executives together with Dange's coffin to be buried at sea. At this time, salutes were also fired at both of them, and wreaths were also dropped from the volt machine.
